Forum Launches!!!

November 23rd, 2006

We’ve just launched a forum on the site. Plenty of action already - a dozen users and loads of posts. Let’s hope this becomes a great place for RPS players worldwide to meet and discuss tactics etc..

Have some interesting press updates for you all too, just need to do some ‘normal’ work first. Maybe I should turn pro eh? How many World Champions have a day job? It’s just not right…

Website Live!!!

November 22nd, 2006

I now have a lovely jubbly shiny new site for all my adoring fans!!!

It was a tough task to portray the true extent of my greatness in a website but I think this just about achieves that goal. A big thanks to everyone involved in helping create it, I’ll give you some lessons for free, anytime…

So, one request for you all. Send the link to everyone. And I mean everyone you know… All the PR regarding by bid to become BBC Sports Personality is going out today and we need your support.

We should be launching a forum too soon so you can all have a chat about me, me, and more me, and maybe some other stuff like RPS tactics and the like if it takes your fancy. I’ll keep you posted…

The Metro

November 20th, 2006

I always read the metro on the way to work. It’s cool. But it’s even cooler when it’s blessed with a nice big mushot of yours truly in all his glory….

What a bonza way to start the day. Good work everyone at the metro; you’ve put a big grin on my face.

Plenty more PR to come this week, pretty soon we’re going to start on the big one:

Back Bob!!! Reopen the voting for BBC Sports Personality of The Year nominations - there’s a new champ in town.

I need you, you and you to help. Keep your eyes peeled…

Bigger than Blair

November 18th, 2006

I’ve hit the big time!!! There’s a great article on the bbc.co.uk website:

www.bbc.co.uk/BOB

Which is cool. But the amazing thing is…. It’s official:

I’M BIGGER THAN BLAIR!!!!

At the time of writing I’m the 3rd most popular story on the BBC site worldwide!!!! Insane!!! And the 4th most popular…?

Worldwide, most popular stories now

#3 UK rock beats US scissors. Yeah baby!! (yeah baby author’s own words…)

#4 Blair accepts ‘disaster’ in Iraq

#5 In pictures: Cruise guests arrive

So, I’m evening beating ‘In pictures: Cruise guests arrive’. How much does Mr. Cruise charge for his films again…?

I’m now officially available for weddings and bar mitzvahs. £1,000,000 a pop. Bargain…

The Beeb

November 18th, 2006

I’m somewhat inebriated. And extremely jolly. The Beeb interview was great, I think, I can’t remember so much of it anymore.

One thing that sticks out though was a rather daft thing they asked me to do. They asked me to take my visor and shades off. Why? Because it’s serious news programme and I’d look silly. The nerve!!! Do they not know who I am? My reply? Truck off… That’s my uniform.

I wear my visor with pride. Beeb or no beeb, I ‘aint taking it off for no-one.

Buckingham Palace

November 17th, 2006

I’m at the Beeb. Nervous. Today has been just splendid. We started with a photo shoot outside Buckingham Palace, a fittingly regal place to celebrate my glorious victory I’m sure you’ll all agree.

That was followed by an open top bus tour around London to celebrate my achievements. The crowds were huge, I couldn’t believe so many people turned up to support me. Or were they there for the Royal Investiture ceremonies held that day? Probably for me. Yep, definitely me.

Now I’m at the Beeb, getting ready for my first live TV interview on BBC News 24. A few beers and I’ll be right. I’m a world champion after all. I’ll let you know how I get on later…

Down boy…

November 16th, 2006

I’ve had to fend off reporters for the last day or so. I’ve just got a new PR agency and that’s all part of the plan – if I’m to become a big hit I need to stop ‘leaking’ stories to the press so we can hit them all in one go. Build up a head of steam so to speak. Sounds logical, let’s hope it works.

To be honest I’m enjoying the rest too. I think I’m coming down with a touch of RSI. Too many hours of gruelling practice me thinks. Time to give the arm a rest. I love this sport (yes sport to all you doubters). But I want to live to throw a rock another day… Tomorrow, things go with a bang again, my biggest piece of PR to date.

Apologies

November 14th, 2006

Ok, sorry boys, I’m a little tired, it’s been an amazing, yet exhausting week. Sorry for the rant, I didn’t mean it, I just love playing the game and like to play it under conditions which allow skill to count.

So, a little more on strategy. And also another apology. I forgot to say a huge thank you to Doug and Graham Walker, organisers of the event and the fantastic World RPS Society. Check out the official website: www.worldrps.com.

These guys rock (if you pardon the pun…). They wrote an absolutely riveting, action packed strategy book, which I’m more than happy to recommend for you to buy here

At over 200 pages long this is the most comprehensive book on RPS strategy I’ve ever read. An excellent read for beginners and experts alike.

Of course, to be a champ, you have to add your own ‘secret source’ to the fundamental tactics outlined in the book. As I always say to people:

‘it’s not about predicting what your opponent will throw, it’s about predicting what your opponent thinks you’ll throw.’

Then you play the move that beats that.

Look at me. Beard. Fists of fury. I’ve got rock written all over my face. But how many rocks do you see me throwing? Not many. Exactly. Scissors was my move in the championships. Why scissors? Well scissors beats paper – and people think I’ll play paper, so I cut them up. Easy peasy.

Having said that you have to adapt. Perhaps I will live up to my namesake and throw rock after rock after rock in next year’s final. Perhaps I’ll win again with the all time classic ‘avalanche’ – 3 consecutive rocks. We’ll see. Anyway, enough about strategy, I’ve got next year to think about.

They did…

November 14th, 2006

The TalkSport boys asked me to play on radio that is. One of them played a move, asked me to shout my move, then the other said who’d won. Now I don’t bear any grudges, it’s only fair that everyone wants to play the champ, but…

Come on boys… don’t insult my talent. It takes years, no make that decades to hone your Rock Paper Scissors skills. Years of blood sweat and tears. Years are reading the signals, learning to ‘prime’ your opponent to play certain moves, years of sacrifice, of devotion. So there’s no surprise I get a little frustrated when asked to play ‘lottery’ games when I can’t even see my opponent. Uff…

Home Sweet Home

November 14th, 2006

Just got back to London. I must say I was flabbergasted not to see a huge crowd greet me at the airport. Oh well, that’ll come later I guess, word takes a while to spread around. I’m gonna get a few minutes shut-eye then I’ve an interview with the nice chaps at TalkSport. Hope they don’t ask me to play on radio…

Bringing back the bacon…

November 13th, 2006

Had a great night last night courtesy of my new found groupies… Well I shouldn’t call them that, but I must say the people in Toronto are extremely friendly. In fact Toronto rocks in general. I must come back here, lots of very fond memories.

Anyway, very tired, off to the airport shortly. Confirmed it was ok to take my super-sized trophy on the plane, tried to blag an upgrade, failed miserably.

Do you not know who I am?!?

I was kind of expecting a private jet and they won’t even stick the new World Champ in first class, the cheek…

Can’t Sleep….

November 12th, 2006

I can’t get no sleep. Good job too, I’ve just finished an interview with Radio 4, broadcast later today on the PM show. It’s in the press section if you want to hear it.

I must say, I think it went rather swimmingly considering I was seriously hungover. In fact, still damn drunk. The guy interviewing did a great job, looking forward to hearing how I come across. A bit nervous actually, but I think it went ok.

Called my mum, she’s chuffed to bits. So she should be; her son’s champion of the world! Still can’t believe it, still feels very surreal.

I’ve watched the video over and over again. My coach and mentor, Neil ‘Toolbox’ Hutchinson, took some great footage. Really raw, captures the emotion of the event perfectly. He can’t speak right now. Seriously! He spent all his powers fielding off the chants of ‘USA…. USA…’, you can’t miss him on the videos! And now he can hardly talk, which isn’t so much of a bad thing anyway.

We’ve just uploaded the video of the final to YouTube. I love that site. Helps you spread your experiences to the four corners of the world. Let’s hope it gets a few views…

WINNER!!!!!!!!

November 12th, 2006

I’m a World Champion!!!!

How many people can say that??? And in such a HUGE, international sport. 496 competitors from all over the world. 10 rounds of pure adrenaline fuelled competition (and the odd beer or 6…) My head is still spinning. I’m in a daze… This is the greatest day of my life!

After winning my final match I was literally swamped with press. Now, I ‘aint no media whore but you’ve gotta do your bit for those paper lovers. I rambled away for a few local Canadian TV stations and had a nice long interview with a Shuichi Azuma from a Japanese TV company. Lovely chap.

Then I had to let go of my trophy for some photographers to take some images of it. That’s like taking a new born baby from her mother. Erm… Or so I imagine… The pain was clearly etched on my face but thankfully I had it back within 5 mins.

The after party… Well… I can’t say too much online. Well I could but my mum’s reading this so I won’t. My hearty thanks go out to Andrea, Amanda, Victoria and friends, great hospitality!

Now… Must sleep…..

Japanese TV

November 12th, 2006

Just finished a thoroughly enjoyable interview with Shuichi Azuma again for Japanese TV. They’re making a documentary on the event. The funniest bit… I was shown a picture of their TV presenter. Last night he was shown a picture of me and phoned in with his moves. So there I was, in a hotel room, looking at a picture of a TV presenter, shouting out something strange in Japanese (I forget… please remind me…), trying to beat my phantom opponent.

I lost. Understandably so.

If I can’t look deep into the whites of your eyes, read your body language, watch you sweat, then it’s luck, pure luck. 50/50.

Invite me over to Japan and I’ll show you what’s what sir. Can’t wait to see the documentary though, let’s hope I’m a big hit in Japan!
